ABOUT LINDA KINYITA

Born and Raised in Kenya, Linda Kinyita is a Kenyan Film Producer, Director and actress based in Nairobi with a career spanning for almost 10 years. She started out her career as a stage actress and then transitioned to acting for film and TV. It is  while acting for film and TV that her interest in production grew and she sort out for behind the scenes jobs that could help her learn more about production while also attending production workshops every opportunity she gets.” Every Job I take is a learning opportunity for me. There is always something new and tricks and tips and I am always ready to absorb them.” Her first job behind the scene was as a production assistant at in Wanuri Kahiu’s TV Series, State House, which aired in 2013 in Zuku and she was also part of the cast. Over the years she has been involved in several local film and TV productions both in acting and production.

In 2018, Linda Kinyita produced her first film as an independent film producer, Home for Xmass, which is available online for free.

As a child Linda was involved in church plays which she credits for her passion. In high school her school was not invested in drama club but was heavily invested in music festivals and so she joined the music club as a costume designer and stage manager. At the Dedan Kimathi University, Linda and several of her peers formed a travelling theatre group focusing on performing Literature set books for high school students. Through the performances she met local film makers and in particular the Late Lee Kanyare a renowned film and media veteran under whose apprenticeship her acting skills were horned.

She says that over the years she has been inspired by many people to be where she is at but women producers stand out the most in her list, Ladies like, Dorothy Ghettuba, Betty Furet, Jennifer Gatero and Susan Gatimu.

When not making films she enjoys spending time with her family and giving motivational talks to teenager under her organisation Pretty Teens. She is a self taught yogi and natural hair lover.

“If you can film an idea in your mind, follow that film idea shot for shot, scene for scene and enjoy it, that idea is worth making for the world to see. It can change someone's life.”
